Las Vegas Lights FC secured a 1-0 victory at Detroit City FC on Friday night, with Oalex Anderson scoring inside the opening minute to settle a bad-tempered USL Championship contest.

Anderson needed just 60 seconds to give the visitors the lead, finishing from a Carson Locker feed to stun the home crowd before the match had barely begun. It was the kind of start Las Vegas could only have dreamed of — and one that shaped the entire 90 minutes that followed.

Detroit spent the rest of the evening chasing the game but could not find a way through. Las Vegas, content to sit in and protect their advantage, showed little interest in playing open soccer. The approach invited pressure and frustration in equal measure, and the referee's notebook filled up quickly.

Christian Pinzon was the first Las Vegas player cautioned in the 42nd minute, and Locker — the goalscorer's provider — picked up a booking of his own moments into the second half. Anderson, Locker's strike partner in crime, followed him into the book on 52 minutes. Giorgio Probo and Patrick Leal added their names before full time, giving Las Vegas five yellows on the night. Detroit's Abdoulaye Diop was booked late in the first half, and Devon Amoo-Mensah joined him in the 88th minute as the hosts' frustration boiled over.

None of it mattered. Las Vegas had their goal, and Detroit never found an equalizer.

The result gives Las Vegas Lights a valuable three points on the road and leaves Detroit City searching for answers after failing to break down a disciplined, if cynical, defensive effort at home.
