El Paso Locomotive FC edged Oakland Roots SC 1–0 at home on Saturday night in USL Championship action, with Rubio Rubín's early strike proving the difference.

The hosts wasted little time setting the tone. Just nine minutes in, Bryant Farkarlun picked out Rubín, who finished clinically to put El Paso ahead. It was a confident start from the Locomotive, who looked sharp going forward in the opening stages and were rewarded for their urgency.

Oakland struggled to find a foothold in the first half. El Paso's control came with a minor blemish when Robert Coronado was booked in the 34th minute, but the home side went into the break with their lead intact and their shape largely untroubled.

The second half brought more of the same from Oakland — possession without real penetration. The Roots pushed for an equalizer as the clock wound down, but El Paso's defensive organization held firm. Zyen Jones picked up a yellow card in the 81st minute as the Locomotive managed the final stretch, happy to sit in and protect what they had.

Oakland's best efforts weren't enough to crack a disciplined rearguard, and the final whistle confirmed a clean sheet for El Paso — a result built on early execution and resolute defending across the remaining 80-plus minutes.

The victory gives El Paso Locomotive FC a valuable three points at home and strengthens their position in the USL Championship standings as the season enters its crucial late-summer stretch.
