Oakland Stompers secured a 2–0 victory over Vacaville Elite in NPSL action on Friday, with second-half goals from R. Manzo Chavez and H. Sandoval sealing the result.
The first half was scoreless but not without incident. Vacaville Elite's J. Downes picked up an early yellow card in the ninth minute, setting an edgy tone for the visitors. Neither side managed to break the deadlock before the break.
Oakland came out with more purpose after halftime. Manzo Chavez opened the scoring five minutes into the second half, giving the Stompers a lead they would not relinquish. Vacaville Elite struggled to respond, and Oakland continued to press. Sandoval doubled the advantage in the 76th minute, effectively putting the game to bed.
Vacaville's frustration showed late on. M. Portillo was booked in the 79th minute — the visitors' second yellow of the match — as their hopes of a comeback faded entirely. Oakland managed the closing minutes comfortably, seeing out a clean sheet without serious threat.
The win gives Oakland Stompers valuable momentum as the NPSL season continues to take shape.
