Union Omaha edged Forward Madison FC 1–0 at home on Saturday thanks to a late strike from Pato Botello Faz in the 78th minute, securing all three points in a tight USL League One contest.

The first half offered little to separate the two sides. Neither team found the back of the net, and the game headed into the break goalless. Forward Madison's Aaron Edwards picked up a yellow card six minutes into the second half, the first booking of the match, as tensions began to creep into the game.

For much of the second period, it looked as though the points might be shared. Then Botello Faz broke the deadlock with 12 minutes remaining, giving Union Omaha the lead they had been chasing all evening.

What followed was a fractious closing stretch. Union Omaha picked up three yellow cards in the final ten minutes — Brandon Knapp in the 80th, Laurence Wootton in the 85th, and Aaron Gómez in stoppage time — as the hosts did whatever was necessary to protect their slender advantage. The card count told the story of a side willing to disrupt the rhythm and see the game out, and Forward Madison ultimately couldn't find an equalizer.

The win gives Union Omaha an early-season boost in the League One standings and continues what will need to be a consistent run of results if they are to remain in contention as the campaign progresses.
