Carolina Ascent FC and Sporting JAX played out a wild 3–3 draw in USL Super League action on Saturday, with Baylee DeSmit's brace for the visitors canceled out by a late Reese Tappan equalizer in the 83rd minute. Shea Groom and Jillienne Aguilera also found the net for Carolina, while Alyssa Hennessey added Sporting JAX's other goal.

Sporting JAX struck first. DeSmit opened the scoring in the 20th minute, finishing from an Ashlyn Puerta feed to put the visitors ahead. Carolina responded before halftime when Groom converted off a Mia Corbin delivery in the 39th minute to level things at one apiece.

The second half turned into a back-and-forth affair. Aguilera put Carolina ahead for the first time in the 61st minute, but the lead lasted only ten minutes. Hennessey — who had been booked in the 51st minute — pulled Sporting JAX level in the 71st, getting on the end of a Sophie Jones pass. Seven minutes later, DeSmit struck again to make it 3–2 and give the visitors the advantage heading into the final stretch.

Carolina refused to fold. Tappan equalized in the 83rd minute, finishing from an Aguilera assist to rescue a point. The match grew increasingly fractious down the stretch, with Carolina picking up five yellow cards across the second half — though the referee kept all 22 players on the field.

The draw leaves both sides sharing the spoils in a contest neither could close out, a result that may frustrate both camps as the USL Super League season continues to take shape.
