NPSLEl Farolito claimed a 2–0 victory over Sun City FC in NPSL action on Sunday, with both goals coming courtesy of Sun City own goals — E. Kreye putting through his own net in the 28th minute and D. Benson doing the same in the 64th.
Kreye's unfortunate own goal gave El Farolito an early advantage, but the match quickly spiraled into chaos. S. Mejia picked up a yellow card for El Farolito in the 36th minute, then Sun City FC's M. García was shown a straight red in the 43rd, reducing the visitors to ten men. The ill discipline didn't stop there. Four yellow cards were handed out right at the halftime whistle, and Mejia saw a second yellow to earn his own dismissal at the 45th mark, leveling the sides at ten apiece.
The second half offered no respite. Benson was cautioned in the 50th minute before El Farolito's J. Rueda received a red card in the 61st, leaving the hosts down to nine men. Three minutes later, despite the numerical disadvantage, El Farolito doubled their lead when Benson turned the ball into his own goal.
El Farolito collected three more yellow cards in the final half-hour — A. Ugwumba Vizcarra, A. Carriel, and P. Ulloa all going into the referee's notebook — as the match finished with twelve cards shown in total, including three reds.
It was an ugly, fractured contest, but El Farolito will care little about aesthetics after securing all three points with nine men on the pitch, a result that could prove significant in a tight NPSL standings race.
