Carolina Ascent FC edged Brooklyn FC 1–0 at home on Saturday thanks to a second-half strike from Shea Groom in the 63rd minute, enough to secure all three points in USL Super League action.

The first half produced no goals, with neither side able to find a breakthrough before the break. The game remained scoreless deep into the second half before a flash of quality settled it.

Carolina's Audrey Coleman picked up a yellow card in the 60th minute, but any concerns about discipline were quickly forgotten. Three minutes later, Groom finished from a Mia Corbin assist to give the hosts the lead. It was the decisive moment of the match, and Carolina's defense made sure it stayed that way.

The home side did have to navigate a testy final stretch. Jillienne Aguilera was booked in the 70th minute — Carolina's second caution of the evening — and Brooklyn's Emma Loving followed her into the referee's notebook in the 81st minute as frustrations mounted for the visitors. Brooklyn pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages but could not find a way through.

The clean sheet will please Carolina, who managed the game well after taking the lead despite the card trouble. Brooklyn, meanwhile, left with nothing to show for a match that was well within their reach for over an hour.

The victory gives Carolina Ascent FC valuable points in the USL Super League standings as the fall stretch of the season picks up pace.
