Spokane Velocity cruised past New York Cosmos 3–1 at home on Saturday, racing to a commanding first-half lead before the visitors could muster any response. Jack Denton, Luis Gil, and Neco Brett all found the net before halftime, while Justin Milovanov pulled one back early in the second half for the Cosmos.

The hosts struck first in the 25th minute when Denton finished from a Simon Fitch delivery to make it 1–0. The goal seemed to light a fuse on both sides — not in quality of play, but in frustration. Four yellow cards were shown in a 14-minute span between the 26th and 40th minutes, with Massimo Morabito and Tristan Stephani both cautioned for the Cosmos and Camron Miller booked for Spokane.

The cards did nothing to slow Velocity's momentum. Gil doubled the advantage in the 39th minute with an unassisted strike, and just four minutes later Brett made it three, converting off a pass from Shavon John-Brown. Spokane went into the break with a three-goal cushion and complete control of the match.

New York showed some fight early in the second half. Milovanov cut the deficit to 3–1 in the 48th minute, but the Cosmos never seriously threatened an extended comeback. The final half-hour was a scrappy affair, with three more yellow cards distributed — two to Spokane, one to New York — as the game wound down without further goals.

The convincing victory gives Spokane Velocity an early-season statement result and three valuable points in what shapes up as a competitive USL League One campaign.
