Union Omaha came from behind to beat Portland Hearts of Pine 2-1 on the road Wednesday night in USL League One action. Diego Gonzalez opened the scoring early for the hosts, but goals from Diego Gutiérrez and Gabriel de Freitas turned the match in Omaha's favor before halftime.

Portland struck first in the ninth minute when Gonzalez finished from an Aboubacar Camara feed to give Hearts of Pine the lead. The advantage lasted just seven minutes. Gutiérrez equalized for Union Omaha in the 16th, getting on the end of a Laurence Wootton delivery to make it 1-1.

Omaha kept pushing and completed the turnaround in the 32nd minute. Gabriel de Freitas found the net off a Marlon Vargas assist, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.

The match grew increasingly fractious from there. Mikey Lopez was booked for Portland in the 39th minute, and Samuel Owusu picked up a yellow for Omaha a minute later. The cards kept coming in the second half — Sami Guediri cautioned for Omaha in the 55th, Diogo Barbosa for Portland in the 75th, and Wootton for Omaha in the 84th. Six yellows in total, though neither side was reduced to ten men.

Despite the choppy nature of the second half, Portland could not find a way back into the contest. Union Omaha managed the game well enough to hold their lead through the final whistle.

The result gives Union Omaha a valuable three points on the road and leaves Portland Hearts of Pine searching for answers after falling behind at home despite taking an early lead.
