El Paso Locomotive FC beat Orange County SC 2–1 at home on Saturday, with first-half goals from Amando Moreno and Bryant Farkarlun proving enough to hold off a second-half response from Christopher Hegardt.
The match was feisty from the start. Tony Alfaro picked up a yellow card inside five minutes for El Paso, and Orange County's Ousmane Sylla followed him into the book in the 17th minute. Neither side found a breakthrough early, but El Paso grew into the game as the half wore on.
Moreno opened the scoring in the 30th minute, finishing from a Ricky Ruiz assist to give the hosts the lead. Abraham Romero was then cautioned three minutes later, El Paso's second booking of the night. It didn't seem to rattle them. Just before halftime, Farkarlun doubled the advantage in the 43rd minute, converting after good work from Eric Calvillo. Nico Benalcazar was booked for Orange County on the same play.
Orange County came out with more urgency after the break. Hegardt pulled one back in the 51st minute, getting on the end of a Marcelo Palomino delivery to cut the deficit in half. Alex Méndez was booked shortly after as El Paso looked to manage the game and protect their lead. The visitors pushed for an equalizer through the final 40 minutes, but El Paso held firm. Zyen Jones picked up a late yellow in stoppage time as the hosts saw the match out.
The win gives El Paso valuable points in the USL Championship standings as the regular season enters its final stretch.
