NPSLOakland Stompers edged Sun City FC 1–0 in NPSL action on Saturday, with an own goal from Sun City's M. Portillo in the 75th minute proving the decisive moment.
The first half produced no goals and, by the data, little in the way of major incident. The second half was a different story. Tensions began to rise around the hour mark as Sun City picked up a string of bookings — A. Torres was cautioned in the 63rd minute, followed by J. Aguilar six minutes later. Oakland's C. Valeriano had already been shown yellow in the 53rd minute.
The breakthrough came in the 75th minute, though not in the manner Sun City would have wanted. Portillo turned the ball into his own net to hand Oakland a 1–0 lead. Two minutes later, R. Manzo Chavez added another Sun City name to the referee's book, the visitors' third yellow of the half.
