The first half produced no goals but plenty of edge. D. Taraska picked up a yellow card for West Chester in the 30th minute, and FC Motown's A. Bhogal was booked shortly before the break in the 43rd. The pattern continued into the second half, with C. Caviness cautioned in the 53rd minute and FC Motown's M. Brenes following him into the referee's notebook six minutes later.
For all the cards, though, neither side could find a breakthrough — until Mellor struck in the 83rd minute to give FC Motown the lead. The visitors looked set to take all three points, but the advantage lasted barely four minutes. Espinosa pulled West Chester level in the 87th, sparking a reaction from FC Motown's V. Kneis, who had been booked a minute earlier. Espinosa himself then picked up a yellow card in the 90th minute, capping a chaotic finish to a match that had spent over 80 minutes without a goal.
Six bookings across the two sides underlined the combative nature of the contest, even if the referee never had to reach for a red card.
The draw keeps both teams in the mix as the NPSL season enters its crucial summer stretch, though neither side will look back on the shared points as a result that moved the needle.
