Las Vegas Lights FC ground out a 1–0 victory over Monterey Bay FC on Saturday night, with Johnny Rodriguez netting the only goal of the game four minutes into the second half.

The first half was a scrappy, stop-start affair dominated by the referee's whistle. Monterey Bay picked up three bookings before the break — Fernando Delgado in the 14th minute, Kelsey Egwu in the 42nd, and Joel Garcia deep into first-half stoppage time. Despite their indiscipline, the visitors managed to keep the score level heading into halftime.

That changed quickly after the restart. Rodriguez broke the deadlock in the 49th minute, giving Las Vegas a lead they would not relinquish. The goal seemed to settle the home side while forcing Monterey Bay further forward in search of an equalizer.

The second half continued in a fractious tone. Wesley Leggett was cautioned in the 68th minute for Monterey Bay, their fourth yellow of the evening, before Las Vegas' Marc Ybarra joined the book three minutes later. Six yellows across 90 minutes told the story of a physical, combative contest.

Monterey Bay's persistent fouling ultimately worked against them, disrupting their own rhythm as much as their opponents'. They struggled to build sustained pressure in the final 20
