Virginia Dream FC cruised to a 1–3 away victory over Grove United in NPSL action on June 20, with L. Emson, C. Rodriguez, and A. Tom all finding the net in the second half. Z. Diarra grabbed a consolation for the hosts.
The first half produced no goals but plenty of friction. I. Conteh and A. Tom were both booked in the 43rd minute after a heated exchange, and the tension carried into the closing stages of the opening period.
Virginia Dream FC came out sharp after the break. L. Emson broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, and just four minutes later C. Rodriguez doubled the visitors' advantage to make it 2–0. Grove United, already carrying two yellow cards, looked rattled. R. O'Neill had been cautioned in the 57th minute, and the home side's discipline was slipping as the deficit grew.
Diarra pulled one back for Grove United in the 75th minute, briefly offering hope of a comeback. It lasted seconds. Tom, already on a booking from the first half, struck almost immediately to restore Virginia Dream FC's two-goal cushion at 3–1. It was a composed finish from a player who could have been forgiven for playing conservatively while sitting on a caution.
Grove United had no answer in the final 15 minutes. Y. Quintanilla picked up a late yellow card for Virginia Dream FC in stoppage time, but by then the result was long settled.
