FC Milwaukee Torrent and Gio's Lions SC Chicago played out a 1–1 draw in NPSL action on Saturday, with Y. Lakhlifi's second-half equalizer canceling out an early Chicago opener.
Gio's Lions took the lead in the 18th minute, striking first and putting the Torrent on the back foot. Milwaukee struggled to find a response before the break, heading into halftime trailing by a goal.
The second half brought more urgency from the home side — and more tension. G. Rodriguez picked up a yellow card in the 55th minute as challenges grew harder. Chicago's M. Cockings was booked shortly after in the 67th minute as the game threatened to boil over.
Two minutes later, Lakhlifi delivered the moment Milwaukee needed. He found the net in the 69th minute to level the score at 1–1, giving the Torrent a lifeline they had been chasing for most of the match.
The equalizer didn't settle things down. N. Dimitrijevic was cautioned in the 76th minute, and Lakhlifi himself — the man who had just rescued a point for his side — joined him in the referee's notebook with a yellow card in the 83rd minute. Four bookings across the final 30 minutes painted a picture of a fractious, physical closing stretch.
Neither side could find a winner, and the points were shared.
The draw keeps both teams in the mix during the NPSL season, though neither will look back on a point gained with complete satisfaction.
