FC Frederick held off a late Grove United push to claim a 2–1 victory in NPSL action on Friday night. R. Heinemann and M. Riley scored for the hosts, while R. Cicmanec pulled one back for Grove United.

Frederick made their intentions clear early. Heinemann opened the scoring in the eighth minute, giving the home side a lead they would not relinquish. The hosts controlled much of the first half and doubled their advantage through Riley in the 34th minute.

Grove United responded almost immediately. Just two minutes after conceding the second, Cicmanec cut the deficit to 2–1 in the 36th minute, ensuring Frederick would head into the break with a narrow lead rather than a comfortable cushion.

The second half grew testy as both sides picked up bookings. J. Mudd was cautioned for Frederick in the 65th minute, followed by Grove United's M. Moncada three minutes later. T. Johnson added a third yellow to the tally in the 76th minute, picking up a card for the home side as Frederick looked to see out the result.

Grove United pressed for an equalizer in the closing stages, but Frederick's defense held firm. No red cards were shown despite the increasingly physical nature of the contest.

The win gives FC Frederick a valuable three points in the NPSL standings and builds early-season momentum heading deeper into the summer schedule.
