Phoenix Rising FC edged Indy Eleven 2–1 at home on Saturday night in a USL Championship contest that was effectively decided inside the opening half hour. Dominique Badji, Daniel Flores, and Pape Boye all found the net in a frantic first 28 minutes before the game settled into a scrappy, card-laden affair.

Rising struck first in the fifth minute when Badji finished off a feed from Ihsan Sacko to give the hosts an early lead. The advantage lasted barely two minutes. Boye equalized for Indy Eleven in the seventh minute, punishing Phoenix almost immediately and leveling the match at 1–1.

The quick-fire exchange set the tone for an edgy opening period. Jean Eric Moursou picked up a yellow card in the 24th minute as tackles flew in, and four minutes later Flores restored Phoenix's lead, making it 2–1 with what proved to be the winner.

The second half produced no goals but plenty of needle. Collin Smith was booked moments after the restart, and Indy's Anthony Herbert and Cameron Lindley collected yellows of their own as the visitors pushed for an equalizer that never came. Sacko, who had set up the opener, was cautioned late on in the 87th minute as Phoenix saw out the result. In all, the referee brandished five yellow cards across the 90 minutes — three to the home side, two to Indy.

The win gives Phoenix Rising FC three valuable points at home as the club looks to solidify its position in the USL Championship standings heading into September.
