The opening exchanges were feisty. ASC New York's T. Malango picked up a yellow card in the 17th minute, setting an early tone. Eight minutes later, Taleb broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, giving New Haven a lead they would never relinquish.
The hosts controlled proceedings through the middle of the match without adding to their tally. E. Palomeque Mena was cautioned in the 65th minute for New Haven, but the home side's grip on the game never loosened.
