NPSLErie Commodores FC and Flower City Union played out a 1–1 draw in NPSL action on Friday, with all the game's goals arriving in a frantic three-minute spell early in the second half. W. Perry put Flower City ahead in the 50th minute, finishing off a move involving M. Tsuji, before J. Hopson hauled Erie level in the 53rd.
The first half produced no goals but plenty of needle. D. Rice picked up a yellow card in the 20th minute for Erie, and teammate M. Bamford followed him into the book just three minutes later. Flower City's J. Tovar Jaime was also cautioned right before the break, setting the tone for an increasingly fractious contest.
Whatever was said at halftime clearly sharpened both sides. Flower City came out fast and took the lead through Perry on 50 minutes. Erie's response was almost immediate — Hopson found the net three minutes later to restore parity and ensure the hosts would not trail for long.
The equalizer did nothing to calm tempers. Hopson himself was booked in the 67th minute, and the cards kept coming: D. Sumner for Flower City at 69 minutes, then J. Baraka and G. Rice for Erie in the 77th and 88th minutes respectively. Erie finished with five yellows on the night, Flower City with two. Neither side could find a winner amid the chaos.
The point apiece does little to shift the momentum for either club as the NPSL season moves deeper into summer, though both will want to clean up the discipline before the cards start costing them.
