Spokane Zephyr FC and Lexington SC played out a goalless draw in USL Super League action on Saturday, with neither side able to find a breakthrough despite a feisty contest that saw the referee reach for his pocket five times.

Lexington picked up the first caution of the match early, with Catherine Barry going into the book in the 11th minute. The visitors' discipline problems continued when Alyssa Bourgeois was shown yellow in the 29th minute, setting a combative tone for the remainder of the half. Despite the stop-start nature of play, neither team managed to convert any chances before the break.

The second half brought more of the same frustration in front of goal — and more cards. Emina Ekic was cautioned in the 55th minute, making it three yellows for Lexington. Allison Pantuso followed five minutes later, picking up a fourth booking for the visitors. Spokane's Reese Tappan joined the list in the 63rd minute, the home side's sole caution of the afternoon.

Lexington's accumulation of four yellow cards suggested a team riding its luck defensively, but the strategy — deliberate or not — worked. Spokane couldn't capitalize, and the match ended without a goal at either end.

The draw leaves both sides sharing the spoils in what shapes up as a grinding stretch of the USL Super League season, with neither club able to claim the full three points from a match defined more by its disciplinary record than any attacking quality.
