Birmingham Legion FC staged a stunning late comeback to salvage a 4–4 draw against New Mexico United in a wild USL Championship clash on Wednesday night. Romario Williams, Ronaldo Damus (twice), and Gevork Diarbian scored for the hosts, while Zico Bailey, Niall Reid-Stephen, Greg Hurst, and Joseph Quiah found the net for New Mexico.

Williams opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finishing off a Dawson McCartney delivery to give Birmingham the early advantage. It didn't last. Bailey equalized five minutes later from a Niall Reid-Stephen assist, and Reid-Stephen himself made it 2–1 moments after, converting a Christopher Gloster ball in the 19th minute.

New Mexico carried that lead into the break and extended it emphatically in the second half. Hurst struck in the 64th minute before turning provider two minutes later, setting up Quiah to make it 4–1. Birmingham looked buried.

Then the hosts woke up. Damus pulled one back in the 77th minute, and Diarbian — fed by Serge Ngoma — cut the deficit to one in the 87th. Deep into stoppage time, with the clock ticking past the 90th minute, Damus completed the rescue act to level the match at four apiece. Tempers flared late, with Seth Antwi and Cristian Nava both picking up yellow cards in the dying moments.

Birmingham will take heart from the fightback but will rue falling three goals behind, while New Mexico will struggle to stomach surrendering what looked like an unassailable lead — a point apiece that may satisfy neither side in a tight Championship race.
