Ristozi FC edged Virginia Dream FC 2–1 in NPSL action on July 11, with Z. Diarra opening the scoring in the 16th minute and an own goal in the 49th minute proving decisive after J. Petty had equalized for the visitors just before halftime.
Ristozi took control early. Diarra found the net just 16 minutes in to put the hosts ahead, and the goal came only two minutes after Virginia Dream's E. Tubbs had been cautioned with a yellow card. Virginia Dream struggled to gain a foothold in the first half but stayed in the contest, and Petty leveled the score right at the stroke of halftime in the 45th minute to send the teams into the break level at 1–1.
The second half was barely four minutes old when Virginia Dream's fortunes took a turn. An own goal in the 49th minute handed Ristozi the lead once again, undoing the momentum Petty's equalizer had generated. T. Davis picked up a yellow card for Virginia Dream in the 56th minute as frustrations mounted, with the visitors now chasing the game for the second time.
Virginia Dream pressed for another equalizer but could not find a way through. Ristozi held firm across the final half-hour, seeing out the result without major alarm.
The win gives Ristozi FC three valuable points in the NPSL standings and will leave Virginia Dream ruing an own goal that swung a tight contest they had briefly looked capable of salvaging.
