Carolina Ascent FC and Tampa Bay Sun FC played out a 2–2 draw in USL Super League action on Saturday, with Tampa Bay clawing back from a goal down before Carolina rescued a point deep in stoppage time through Madison Mercado.

Carolina controlled the first half and were rewarded five minutes before the break when Mia Corbin found the net to give the hosts a 1–0 lead heading into halftime. The advantage held for much of the second half, but Tampa Bay Sun FC had other ideas.

Sydny Nasello equalized in the 74th minute, finishing off a chance created by Emma Gaines-Ramos to level the contest at 1–1. The visitors then completed the turnaround just seven minutes later. Sabrina McNeill picked out Gabby Provenzano, who converted to put Tampa Bay 2–1 ahead with less than ten minutes of regulation remaining.

Carolina Ascent looked destined for defeat, but Mercado struck in the second minute of stoppage time to salvage a share of the spoils. Emily Moxley provided the assist as the home side snatched a dramatic equalizer when it mattered most.

It was a tale of two halves — Carolina the better side early, Tampa Bay seizing momentum late — only for the hosts to have the final word. Neither team could land a knockout blow, and the point apiece felt both earned and costly depending on perspective.

The draw keeps both sides searching for the kind of consistency needed to separate themselves in the USL Super League standings as the season progresses.
