New York Cosmos cruised to a 4–2 victory at Fort Wayne FC on Saturday, with Lamin Jawneh scoring twice and Sergio Chavez and Reid Sproat also finding the net. Ryan Becher and Clarence Awoudor replied for the hosts, but Fort Wayne were chasing the game from late in the first half.

The opening 40 minutes produced six yellow cards between the two sides but no goals. That changed in the 44th minute when Jawneh broke the deadlock, finishing off a Shamit Shome feed to give the Cosmos the lead. Worse followed for Fort Wayne just before the halftime whistle — Chavez made it 2–0 in first-half stoppage time after a pass from Philip Spengler, and the hosts went into the break with a mountain to climb.

Any hopes of a Fort Wayne recovery took an immediate hit. Sproat struck two minutes into the second half to extend the Cosmos' advantage to three, effectively putting the result beyond doubt.

Becher pulled one back in the 66th minute, connecting with a Javier Armas delivery to make it 3–1, but the response was short-lived. Jawneh restored the three-goal cushion in the 71st minute, again combining with Shome to complete his brace. The Shome-Jawneh connection proved the defining partnership of the evening.

Awoudor added a consolation deep in stoppage time to set the final score at 4–2, but it was little more than a footnote on a comfortable Cosmos afternoon.

The result underlines New York's credentials as serious contenders in USL League One this season, while Fort Wayne will need to shore up defensively after conceding three goals in a devastating four-minute span bridging halftime.
