Spokane Zephyr FC secured a 1-0 victory away at Carolina Ascent FC in USL Super League action on Wednesday, with Tori Waldeck's first-half strike proving the difference.

The opening half hour passed without a goal, but the match turned in a short sequence midway through the first half. Carolina's Mia Corbin picked up a yellow card in the 33rd minute, and just two minutes later Spokane made the hosts pay. Cameron Tucker delivered the key pass, and Waldeck finished clinically in the 35th minute to put the Zephyr ahead going into the break.

Carolina came out needing a response after halftime but instead found themselves repeatedly in the referee's notebook. Sydney Studer was cautioned in the 53rd minute, Meaghan Nally followed in the 79th, and Jenna Butler was booked deep into stoppage time. Four yellow cards across the match painted a picture of growing frustration from the home side as they chased an equalizer that never came. Spokane's Kelsey Oyler also picked up a booking in the 85th minute as the visitors looked to see out the result.

Spokane held firm through the final minutes to claim all three points on the road. The Zephyr's defensive discipline was the story of the second half — Carolina's pressure yielded cards but no goals.

The away win gives Spokane Zephyr FC valuable points in the USL Super League standings and adds another difficult chapter to what is becoming a frustrating stretch for Carolina Ascent FC at home.
