Oakland Roots SC and Orange County SC shared the points in a 1–1 draw at home on Saturday in USL Championship action. Florian Valot opened the scoring for Oakland in the 20th minute, while Yaniv Bazini equalized for Orange County on the hour mark.

Oakland started the brighter of the two sides. Valot found the net midway through the first half, finishing off a pass from Thomas McCabe to give the Roots an early lead. The hosts looked comfortable for stretches after that, though the game grew increasingly chippy as the half wore on. Lyam MacKinnon picked up a booking for Orange County in the 31st minute, and Oakland's Mark Fisher followed him into the referee's notebook nine minutes later.

Orange County came out with more urgency after the break. Bazini leveled things in the 60th minute, pulling the visitors back into a game they had struggled to influence in the first half. The goal shifted momentum, and Oakland found themselves on the back foot for portions of the second half.

The match's physical edge continued late. Stephen Kelly was cautioned for Orange County in the 72nd minute, Julian Bravo received a yellow for Oakland seven minutes later, and Bobosi Byaruhanga was booked deep in stoppage time — three Oakland players carded on the night in total.

Neither side could find a winner despite a scrappy final 30 minutes. The draw does little to help either team's ambitions in the USL Championship standings, with both clubs dropping two points in what shapes up as a tight race down the stretch of the regular season.
