Sporting JAX and Tampa Bay Sun FC shared the points in a 1–1 draw in USL Super League action on Saturday, with Sydny Nasello opening the scoring for the visitors in the 18th minute before Ashlyn Puerta equalized late for the hosts in the 83rd.

Tampa Bay struck first. Nasello found the net midway through the opening half to give Sun FC an early advantage, and the visitors carried that lead into the break without much trouble.

The second half belonged largely to frustration for Sporting JAX. The home side picked up three yellow cards in the space of 16 minutes — Julia Lester was cautioned in the 51st minute, Katherine Sullivan followed in the 63rd, and Jade Pennock joined the book in the 67th. The mounting discipline issues suggested a team growing increasingly desperate to find a way back into the match.

That desperation finally paid off. Puerta struck with just seven minutes of regulation remaining to level the score at 1–1, sparing Sporting JAX from what had looked like a likely home defeat. It was the kind of goal that changes the mood of an entire evening — Tampa Bay had done well to protect their lead for over an hour, only to see it dissolve late.

Sun FC will feel they let two points slip after controlling the scoreboard for so long, while Sporting JAX will take the point but know the second-half discipline issues are a concern moving forward in the USL Super League season.
