Charlotte Independence came from behind early nerves to claim a 2–1 victory at Richmond Kickers on Saturday in USL League One action. Owen O'Malley opened the scoring for Charlotte in the eighth minute, Tarik Pannholzer equalized for Richmond three minutes later, and Joseph Skinner restored the visitors' lead just before halftime with what proved to be the winner in the 42nd minute.

O'Malley struck first, giving Charlotte the early advantage. Richmond's response was swift. Pannholzer leveled the match in the 11th minute, finishing off a pass from Owen O'Malley to make it 1–1. The quick exchange set the tone for a feisty first half, with Reudd Manin picking up a yellow card for Charlotte in the 15th minute as challenges flew in.

The deadlock didn't last long enough for either side to settle. Skinner put Charlotte back in front three minutes before the break, connecting from a Jon Bakero feed to make it 2–1. The goal came at a crucial time, sending the visitors into halftime with the lead and the momentum.

The second half produced no further goals but plenty of cards. The referee brandished eight yellows across the 90 minutes — five for Charlotte, three for Richmond — as the match grew increasingly fractious. Tyler Freeman, Harold Hanson, and Ali Sasankhah were all cautioned for the Kickers, while Javen Romero, Christy Manzinga, Clay Dimick, and Jefferson Amaya joined Manin in the book for the Independence.

Despite the pressure from the home side, Charlotte's defense held firm to secure all three points on the road, a result that could prove significant as the League One playoff picture continues to take shape.
