NPSLFC Motown secured a 2–0 victory over New Jersey United AC in NPSL action on June 6, with J. Gomez opening the scoring in the 42nd minute and M. Escobar adding a second in the 82nd to seal the result.
The first half was a scrappy affair. FC Motown picked up two yellow cards before the break — I. Helguera cautioned in the 22nd minute and I. Soffer following him into the book in the 36th. Despite the disciplinary issues, Motown found the breakthrough just before halftime. Gomez struck in the 42nd minute to give the hosts a 1–0 lead heading into the interval. New Jersey United AC's A. Lazo was booked right at the stroke of halftime, capping a tetchy opening 45 minutes.
The second half saw New Jersey United AC chase an equalizer but struggle to create clear-cut opportunities. FC Motown's D. Navas was shown a yellow card in the 78th minute — the fourth caution of a physical contest — but the hosts held firm defensively and punished their visitors on the counterattack. Escobar doubled the advantage in the 82nd minute, effectively putting the game to bed with less than ten minutes remaining.
FC Motown managed the closing stages comfortably, seeing out the match without further alarm despite carrying three bookings. New Jersey United AC rarely threatened a comeback after conceding the second.
The clean-sheet victory gives FC Motown valuable momentum as the NPSL season progresses, strengthening their position in the standings at the expense of a New Jersey United AC side that will need to regroup quickly.
