New Mexico United and Orange County SC played out a 1–1 draw in USL Championship action on Saturday, with both goals arriving inside the opening 18 minutes before the game settled into a stalemate.

The hosts struck early. Kipp Keller needed just two minutes to open the scoring, finishing from a Niko Hämäläinen delivery to give New Mexico the ideal start at home. The quick goal energized the home side, but the lead lasted barely a quarter of an hour.

Orange County hit back in the 18th minute through Nico Benalcazar, who found the net off a Christopher Hegardt assist to level the match. From that point, neither side could find a breakthrough. The fast-paced opening gave way to a more cautious affair as the half wore on, and the second period followed suit.

The game grew scrappy in the final stretch. New Mexico picked up a yellow card in the 76th minute, and Orange County's Ousmane Sylla was booked in the 88th as tempers frayed late. Neither caution led to anything more serious, and the match ended level.

A point apiece does little to shift the picture for either club. New Mexico will feel they let an opportunity slip after grabbing such an early advantage at home, while Orange County can take credit for responding quickly and refusing to fold. Both teams will look to turn draws into wins as the Championship season pushes deeper into the summer months.
