Oakland Roots SC cruised past Las Vegas Lights FC 4–2 at home on Wednesday night, powered by a Peter Wilson hat trick that put the result beyond doubt. Wilson struck in the 18th, 58th, and 87th minutes, while Faysal Bettache added a second-half opener's insurance early on. Oalex Anderson and Johnny Rodriguez replied for Las Vegas, but the visitors never truly threatened a comeback.

The Roots took control inside the opening 25 minutes. Wilson opened the scoring in the 18th minute, finishing off a Wolfgang Prentice delivery to make it 1–0. Four minutes later, Bettache doubled the advantage, converting from a Bertin Jacquesson setup. Las Vegas looked rattled and struggled to gain any foothold before halftime, with Abraham Okyere picking up a yellow card in the 37th minute as frustrations mounted.

Oakland's Thomas McCabe was cautioned early in the second half, but the Roots remained the more dangerous side. Wilson grabbed his second of the night in the 58th minute — again from a Prentice assist — to stretch the lead to three. Las Vegas finally showed some fight. Anderson pulled one back in the 69th minute, finishing from a Ben Mines pass, and Rodriguez made it 4–2 in the 78th minute after Nighte Pickering's assist gave the Lights brief hope of a late surge.

Any thoughts of a dramatic comeback were snuffed out when Wilson completed his hat trick in the 87th minute, this time without assistance, restoring Oakland's three-goal cushion and sealing all three points.

The emphatic win gives Oakland Roots valuable momentum heading deeper into the USL Championship season.
