Detroit City FC cruised to a 3-0 victory over Brooklyn FC in USL Championship action on Saturday, with Darren Smith scoring twice and C. Egbuchulam adding a late third to complete a comfortable home win.

Smith needed just three minutes to open the scoring, finishing from a Devon Amoo-Mensah assist to put Detroit ahead before Brooklyn had time to settle. The early goal set the tone for what became a one-sided affair.

Smith doubled the lead in the 32nd minute, this time going it alone to make it 2-0 before halftime. Brooklyn's frustration began to show as Thomas Vancaeyezeele picked up a yellow card just before the break, and teammate Jaden Servania followed him into the book early in the second half.

Despite the two-goal cushion, Detroit didn't sit back entirely. The third came in the 85th minute when Egbuchulam converted from a Maximiliano Rodríguez assist to put the result beyond any doubt. Alex Dalou picked up a late yellow for Detroit in stoppage time, the only blemish on an otherwise controlled performance.

Brooklyn rarely threatened and offered little resistance once Smith's early strike shifted the momentum firmly in Detroit's favor. The visitors struggled to create meaningful chances across 90 minutes and will need to regroup quickly.

The convincing win gives Detroit City FC an early-season statement result and three valuable points as they look to establish themselves near the top of the USL Championship standings.
