NPSLVirginia Atlantic FC edged Grove United 2–1 in NPSL action on June 16, with an own goal from E. Kilosho in the 40th minute and a second-half strike from A. Tom sealing the win. B. Harris pulled one back for the visitors in the 74th minute, but it proved to be a consolation.
The first half was a largely uneventful affair until the closing minutes. Grove United's Kilosho turned the ball into his own net five minutes before the break, gifting the hosts a 1–0 lead heading into halftime.
Virginia Atlantic came out with purpose after the interval. Tom doubled the advantage just four minutes into the second half, putting the home side in a commanding position at 2–0. Grove United looked in danger of being shut out entirely.
To their credit, the visitors refused to fold. Harris found the net in the 74th minute to cut the deficit in half and inject some tension into the final stretch. Grove United pressed for an equalizer in the closing stages, and the pressure told — Virginia Atlantic's A. Mbandu picked up a yellow card in the 89th minute as the home side fought to see out the result.
It was enough. Virginia Atlantic held firm through the dying minutes to claim all three points and hand Grove United a frustrating defeat, one largely shaped by that first-half own goal. The result gives Virginia Atlantic FC valuable momentum as the NPSL season continues into the summer months.
