Miami FC and Birmingham Legion FC played out a 1–1 draw in USL Championship action on Sunday, with Arney Rocha opening the scoring in the first half before Peter-Lee Vassell equalized midway through the second.

Miami controlled the better of the opening exchanges and found their breakthrough just before halftime. Rocha struck in the 41st minute to send the home side into the break with a deserved lead. It was a timely goal that gave Miami FC something to protect heading into the second 45.

The hosts looked comfortable for much of the second half, but the game's complexion shifted as the hour mark passed. Daltyn Knutson picked up a yellow card in the 70th minute for Miami, and Birmingham began to sense an opportunity. Legion FC pushed higher up the pitch and were rewarded eight minutes later when Vassell found the net in the 78th minute to level the contest. Neither side could find a winner in the closing stages, and the points were shared.

Birmingham will feel the better about the result, having trailed for the majority of the match before salvaging a point on the road. Miami, meanwhile, will rue their inability to close things out after doing the hard work to take the lead. The draw keeps both sides in the mix in the USL Championship standings as the season moves deeper into the summer stretch.
