Virginia Dream FC and Alexandria Reds played out a 1–1 draw in NPSL action on Wednesday, with J. Rodriguez opening the scoring in the 66th minute before L. Emson rescued a point for the visitors with a late equalizer in the 87th.

The match was fractious from the start. Virginia Dream's A. Chicas picked up a yellow card in the 17th minute, and Alexandria's Emson was booked three minutes later. A. Diaz joined Emson in the referee's notebook before halftime, cautioned in the 41st minute as the contest grew increasingly ill-tempered.

Things escalated immediately after the break. Chicas, already on a yellow, saw red just two minutes into the second half, leaving Virginia Dream to play the remaining 43 minutes with ten men. Alexandria's J. Boamah was then cautioned in the 55th minute — the fifth booking of an undisciplined affair.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, it was Virginia Dream who struck first. Rodriguez found the net in the 66th minute to put the hosts ahead against the run of play. The task for Alexandria grew steeper nine minutes later when M. McAllister was sent off, reducing the Reds to ten men themselves and leveling the playing field.

But Alexandria refused to fold. Emson, who had been walking a disciplinary tightrope since his early booking, delivered when it mattered most, equalizing with just three minutes of regulation remaining. D. Torres-Lopez picked up yet another Alexandria yellow in the 90th minute to cap a match that produced seven cards in total.

The draw keeps both sides searching for momentum as the NPSL season pushes deeper into the summer months.
