Tampa Bay Rowdies and Charleston Battery played out a 2–2 draw in the USL Championship on Wednesday, with Mattheus rescuing a point for the hosts deep into stoppage time. Louis Pérez, Maalique Foster, and Colton Swan also found the net in a contest that swung both ways before the late equalizer.

Charleston's Emilio Ycaza picked up the game's first booking in the 24th minute, and it was Tampa Bay who broke the deadlock shortly after. Pérez struck in the 30th minute to give the Rowdies the lead heading into halftime.

The Battery responded ten minutes into the second half. Foster leveled at 1–1 in the 55th minute, shifting momentum toward the visitors. Tampa Bay's frustrations began to mount — Max Schneider was cautioned in the 71st minute, and Russell Cicerone followed him into the book just two minutes later as the Rowdies struggled to regain control.

Charleston then took the lead through Swan in the 81st minute, finishing from a Miguel Berry assist to make it 2–1. The Battery looked set to leave with all three points.

Mattheus had other ideas. The Tampa Bay substitute — or at least late contributor — headed into stoppage time with purpose, converting from a Charlie Ostrem delivery in the 91st minute to snatch a dramatic 2–2 draw. Nathan Dossantos picked up a yellow card in the dying seconds as emotions boiled over.

The point keeps both sides in the mix in the Championship standings, though Charleston will feel this one got away after holding the lead so late.
