Westchester SC held off a late AV ALTA FC push to win 2–1 at home on Saturday in USL League One action. Daniel Burko and Conor McGlynn scored in the first half for the hosts, while Osvaldo Lay pulled one back deep into stoppage time for the visitors.
Westchester took the lead in the 20th minute when Burko finished from a Kyle Evans assist. AV ALTA FC barely had time to regroup before Adam Aoumaich picked up a yellow card in the 22nd minute, and the visitors struggled to gain any foothold. McGlynn doubled the advantage in the 34th minute, leaving AV ALTA FC with a steep hill to climb heading into the break.
The second half turned scrappy. Westchester collected a string of bookings — Charlie Dickerson in the 60th minute, J Loura four minutes later, and Ermin Mackic in the 86th — as the home side appeared content to manage the game rather than chase a third. AV ALTA FC's Brian Kleiban was also cautioned in the 78th minute as frustrations mounted on both sides.
The closing stages grew heated. Koen Blommestijn and Samory Powder were both booked for Westchester at the start of stoppage time, and AV ALTA FC finally found a way through when Lay converted in the 96th minute to make it 2–1. It proved to be nothing more than a consolation, however, as the final whistle followed shortly after.
The three points give Westchester SC a valuable home win as the regular season enters its final stretch.
