Detroit City FC ground out a 1–0 victory over Tampa Bay Rowdies on Friday night, with Alasanne Ates Diouf's 36th-minute strike proving the difference in a testy USL Championship affair.

The first half started scrappy. Detroit's Haruki Yamazaki picked up the game's first yellow card in the 20th minute, setting the tone for a physical contest. The hosts found their breakthrough shortly before the break when Diouf converted in the 36th minute to put Detroit City ahead. The forward then collected a booking of his own deep in first-half stoppage time, while Tampa Bay's Nathan Dossantos was also cautioned before the interval whistle.

The Rowdies came out needing a response in the second half but couldn't find one. Detroit's Kobe Hernández-Foster was booked in the 56th minute, and Tampa Bay's Charlie Ostrem followed him into the referee's notebook two minutes later. Five yellow cards across the 90 minutes told the story of a match played with an edge, but neither side crossed the line into a sending-off.

Tampa Bay pushed for an equalizer as the clock wound down, yet Detroit's defense held firm. The Rowdies ultimately lacked the cutting edge to break through, and the home side saw out the final minutes without serious alarm.
