Lexington SC came from behind to beat Tampa Bay Sun FC 2–1 in the USL Super League on Saturday, with Catherine Barry and Sarah Griffith scoring late goals to overturn an early deficit.
Tampa Bay took the lead in the 15th minute when Eleanor Dale finished from a Vivianne Bessette feed to give the visitors a deserved early advantage. Lexington struggled to find a response in the first half, and the home side's frustration showed — Kosuke Kimura picked up a yellow card in the 26th minute, followed by Allison Pantuso catching the referee's attention just before halftime.
The second half was a fractious affair. Shea Connors was booked for Tampa Bay in the 49th minute, and the cards kept coming on both sides as the match grew increasingly physical. Addie McCain was cautioned for Lexington in the 62nd minute, sandwiched between yellows for Tampa Bay's Sydny Nasello and Sabrina McNeill. Six players were cautioned in total across the 90 minutes, though neither side was reduced to ten.
Lexington finally found their breakthrough in the 73rd minute. Barry equalized to shift the momentum firmly toward the home side, and Tampa Bay never recovered. Griffith completed the turnaround with five minutes of regulation remaining, sparking celebrations at the final whistle.
It was a result built on persistence rather than dominance. Lexington trailed for nearly an hour before turning the game on its head in a decisive 12-minute spell.
The comeback win gives Lexington SC valuable points as the USL Super League season pushes deeper into the fall stretch.
