Erie Commodores FC secured a 1-0 away victory over Ambassadors FC Ohio in NPSL action on Wednesday, with an 88th-minute own goal from A. Sanchez Ros proving the decisive — and only — moment of quality in a scrappy contest.

The match was contentious from early on. Ambassadors' J. Tovar Jaime picked up a yellow card in just the ninth minute, setting the tone for a physical affair that would produce five bookings across the 90 minutes. Neither side managed to break the deadlock through the first half, with clear-cut chances at a premium.

The second half continued in much the same vein, though the referee's notebook got busier. Erie's N. Werthmuller was cautioned on 55 minutes, followed by Ambassadors' M. Beuvain in the 71st and Erie's A. Depperschmidt three minutes later. M. Baudelet joined the list of Ambassadors players booked in the 83rd minute, meaning three of the home side's outfield players were walking a disciplinary tightrope by the closing stages.

Then came the gut punch. With just two minutes of regulation time remaining, Sanchez Ros turned the ball into his own net to hand Erie a lead they had barely threatened to earn through open play. Ambassadors had no time to mount a meaningful response, and the Commodores held on to claim all three points on the road.

The result gives Erie Commodores a valuable away win as the NPSL season pushes deeper into the summer stretch, while Ambassadors FC Ohio will rue the cruelest possible way to lose a match they had done enough to draw.
