Virginia Dream FC secured a 2-0 away victory over DMV Elite FC in NPSL action on Saturday, with D. Shepard-Lewis and L. Emson providing the goals to seal all three points on the road.
The visitors took the lead early. Shepard-Lewis found the net in the 18th minute, giving Virginia Dream FC a cushion before the half-hour mark and forcing DMV Elite to chase the game. The hosts struggled to fashion clear opportunities in response, though the first half wasn't without its edge — DMV Elite's N. Murdaugh picked up a yellow card in the 37th minute as frustrations began to surface.
The second half followed a similar pattern. DMV Elite FC pressed for an equalizer but left themselves exposed at the back, and Emson doubled Virginia Dream's advantage in the 69th minute to effectively put the contest to bed. The away side did pick up a pair of bookings late on — O. Sanderson cautioned in the 68th minute and L. Boucheng Eipikinho following him into the referee's notebook in the 72nd — but neither card disrupted their control of proceedings.
DMV Elite FC offered little in the way of a comeback, and Virginia Dream FC saw out the closing stages comfortably to claim a clean sheet and a deserved three points.
The result gives Virginia Dream FC valuable momentum in the NPSL season and piles pressure on a DMV Elite side that will need to regroup quickly if they are to stay in contention.
