Monterey Bay FC picked up a comfortable 2–0 home win over Birmingham Legion FC on Friday night, with second-half goals from Riley Bidois and Eduardo Blancas sealing all three points in USL Championship action.

The first half was a largely frustrating affair, defined more by discipline issues than clear-cut chances. Birmingham's Keegan Hughes was booked in the 37th minute, and another Legion player picked up a yellow card just before the break in the 44th minute, suggesting the visitors were struggling to contain Monterey Bay without resorting to fouls.

The deadlock broke on the hour mark. Sebastian Lletget picked out Riley Bidois, who made no mistake to put the hosts ahead 1–0. It was the kind of moment that shifted the entire complexion of the match, forcing Birmingham to push forward and leave space behind.

Monterey Bay made them pay. In the 78th minute, Paul Gindiri set up Eduardo Blancas to double the lead, effectively putting the result beyond doubt with just over ten minutes to play.

The closing stages turned scrappy. Omari Glasgow was cautioned for Monterey Bay in the 83rd minute, Birmingham's Romario Williams followed into the book two minutes later, and Fernando Delgado added his name to the list in the 88th minute. None of it mattered much — the game was already decided.

Birmingham never found an answer for Monterey Bay's second-half quality and rarely threatened a route back into the contest after falling behind.

The victory gives Monterey Bay FC valuable momentum heading deeper into the spring stretch of the USL Championship season.
