Chattanooga Red Wolves SC claimed a dramatic 2–1 victory away at Portland Hearts of Pine on Saturday, with Pedro Hernandez striking in the 90th minute to snatch all three points in USL League One action.
The visitors wasted no time getting on the scoresheet. Hunter Morse opened the scoring in just the second minute, catching Portland cold from the outset and forcing the hosts into an early deficit. The Hearts of Pine spent much of the first half chasing the game but went into the break still trailing by a goal.
Portland found their equalizer midway through the second half. Diego Gonzalez leveled things in the 57th minute, finishing off a pass from Jay Tee Kamara to make it 1–1. The goal breathed life into the home side, and the match looked destined to end in a share of the spoils.
That changed in the final seconds. Hernandez connected with a Wynand Wessels delivery in the 90th minute to restore Chattanooga's lead at the worst possible time for Portland. There was simply no time left for a response.
Both sides picked up late yellow cards — Matteo Kidd for Portland and Omar Hernandez for Chattanooga — as frustrations boiled over in the closing moments.
The result gives Chattanooga a valuable three points on the road and will leave Portland ruing a collapse that turned a hard-earned equalizer into a defeat in the dying moments of the match.
