Rhode Island FC and Orange County SC played out a 1–1 draw on Independence Day in USL Championship action, with Hugo Bacharach and Ousmane Sylla trading second-half goals to split the points.
The first half produced no goals but plenty of cards. Rhode Island picked up two early bookings — Clay Holstad in the ninth minute and Agustín Rodríguez in the 20th — while Orange County's Nicola Ciotta and Garrison Tubbs were also cautioned before the break. Despite the feisty exchanges, neither side could find a breakthrough before halftime.
Rhode Island came out sharper after the interval. Bacharach broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, finishing off a pass from Amos Shapiro-Thompson to give the hosts the lead. The goalscorer's celebration was short-lived in one sense — he was booked ten minutes later, his side's third yellow of the evening.
Orange County responded well. Sylla pulled the visitors level in the 67th minute, capitalizing to restore parity and ensure his team wouldn't leave empty-handed. Rhode Island pushed for a winner in the final stretch but couldn't find a way through, and the match ended level.
The draw extends what has been a competitive campaign for both clubs, with each side adding a point to their respective conference standings heading deeper into the summer schedule.
