The first half produced few moments of note until a fractious spell just before the break. Oakland's Jesús de Vicente was cautioned in the 50th minute, with San Antonio's Lucio Berrón following him into the book a minute later. Neither side could find a breakthrough heading into the interval.

San Antonio's discipline unraveled as the second half wore on. Joseph Batrouni was booked in the 82nd minute before Berrón picked up his second yellow card of the evening in the 86th, reducing the hosts to ten men. Akeem Ward then collected another caution in the 89th minute — three yellow cards inside seven minutes painting a picture of a side losing its composure.

Down a man, San Antonio paid the price almost immediately. Wilson found the net in the third minute of added time, breaking the deadlock and sending the traveling contingent into celebration. Oakland's Bobosi Byaruhanga was booked shortly after, likely in the aftermath of the goal celebrations, but by then the damage was done.
