Oakland Roots SC and Monterey Bay FC shared the points in a 1–1 draw in USL Championship action on Saturday, with Bertin Jacquesson and Paul Gindiri trading goals either side of halftime.

The first half was a cagey affair, with Monterey Bay's Gindiri picking up an early booking in the 15th minute. Oakland grew into the game as the half wore on and found the breakthrough right before the break. Jacquesson finished off a David Garcia delivery in the 45th minute to send the hosts into halftime with a 1–0 lead.

Monterey Bay came out for the second half walking a disciplinary tightrope. Quinton Elliot was cautioned in the 49th minute, and Omari Glasgow followed him into the referee's notebook just four minutes later. Despite the mounting card count, the visitors refused to sit back.

Their persistence paid off in the 77th minute when Gindiri — already on a yellow — leveled the score. It was a gutsy performance from the forward, who played the entire match under the threat of a second booking yet still found the composure to deliver when it mattered most. Tucker Lepley picked up a yellow for Oakland in the 83rd minute as frustrations grew, while Diego Otoya added a fifth Monterey Bay caution deep in stoppage time.

The draw leaves both NorCal rivals still searching for the kind of consistency needed to make a push in the second half of the season.
