Portland Hearts of Pine cruised to a 1–3 victory over New York Cosmos on Saturday in USL League One action, with goals from Konstantinos Georgallidis, Masashi Wada, and Aboubacar Camara sealing all three points on the road. Darren Sidoel netted a consolation for the hosts.

The first half passed without a goal, but Portland broke through early in the second period. Georgallidis opened the scoring in the 56th minute, finishing from a Masashi Wada delivery to give the visitors the lead. The goal seemed to spark a tetchy spell — Matteo Kidd picked up a yellow card in the 60th minute, followed by bookings for teammates Diogo Barbosa and Kemali Green in the 64th and 66th minutes respectively as tensions rose.

The Cosmos responded well. Sidoel pulled the home side level in the 73rd minute, converting from a Philip Spengler assist to make it 1–1 and inject life back into the contest.

The parity lasted just three minutes. Wada, who had set up the opener, got on the scoresheet himself in the 76th minute, turning in a pass from Jay Tee Kamara to restore Portland's advantage. The visitors then put the game beyond doubt in the 86th minute when Aboubacar Camara added a third, finishing off an Ollie Wright assist to make it 1–3.

New York's Augustine Puentes was booked deep in stoppage time as frustration boiled over in the closing moments.

The result gives Portland Hearts of Pine a strong early-season statement on the road, while the Cosmos will need to regroup quickly after conceding twice in the final 15 minutes at home.
