Charlotte Independence rescued a point late on, with Stéfano Pinho equalizing in the 89th minute to earn a 1–1 draw against Fort Wayne FC in USL League One action on Saturday. Tiago Dias had put the visitors ahead in the 82nd minute, finishing from a Ryan Becher delivery to give Fort Wayne what looked like all three points.

The first half produced no goals but plenty of tension. Charlotte's Christopher Jaime picked up a yellow card in the 30th minute, an early booking that would prove costly. The second half brought more cards as Emerson Nieto was cautioned in the 51st minute for Fort Wayne, followed by Dias two minutes later in the 54th. Then Jaime saw a second yellow in the 63rd minute, leaving Charlotte Independence to play the final 27 minutes with ten men.

Down a player, the hosts looked set for a frustrating night. Fort Wayne seized the advantage, and Dias — already walking a disciplinary tightrope after his own booking — made them pay in the 82nd minute, latching onto Becher's assist to break the deadlock.

Charlotte refused to fold, though. Pinho found the net with just a minute of regular time remaining, pulling the Independence level and denying Fort Wayne a hard-fought road win. It was the kind of goal that changes the mood of an entire locker room — scored shorthanded, scored late, scored when the match seemed settled.

The draw means both sides will feel differently about the shared spoils, with Charlotte taking heart from the comeback while Fort Wayne will rue a lead they could not protect in the closing stages.
