Birmingham Legion FC rescued a point late on, drawing 1–1 with Loudoun United FC in USL Championship action on Saturday. Sebastian Tregarthen equalized in the 89th minute for the hosts after Abdellatif Aboukoura had given Loudoun the lead in the 67th.

The first half offered little in the way of goalmouth action, though tensions simmered — Loudoun's Boluwatife Akinyode picked up a yellow card right at the stroke of halftime.

The second half carried more bite. Peter-Lee Vassell was booked in the 62nd minute for Birmingham, and five minutes later Loudoun made the hosts pay. Aboukoura finished from an Ethan Bandré assist to put the visitors ahead and give them something to protect.

Loudoun looked set to see the result out. Birmingham pushed numbers forward but struggled to create clear openings as the clock wound down. Then, with just a minute of normal time remaining, Tregarthen latched onto a ball from Sebastián Saucedo and buried it to level the score at 1–1. It was the kind of gut-punch goal that changes the complexion of a result entirely.

The closing moments grew tetchy, with yellow cards shown to players from both sides in stoppage time as frustrations boiled over.

For Birmingham, the late equalizer will feel like two points dropped rather than one gained, but Tregarthen's intervention at least kept them from suffering a home defeat. Loudoun, meanwhile, will rue their inability to hold on for what would have been a valuable road win as both sides look to climb the standings in the second half of the season.
